…Deploy Special Strike Force to parts of the state
Nine suspects were arrested along Abule Egba and Ifako Ijaiye areas after operatives of Lagos State Police command successfully foiled a robbery attempt on residents in communities under Ogun State, neighbouring Lagos State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police command, DSP Bala Elkana who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday in Lagos said that investigation has commenced on the matter adding that suspects would soon be charged to Court.
Elkana also said that the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu had ordered the immediate deployment of operatives of the command’s Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants, Anti Robbery Squad, Anti Cultism Squad and Raiders to various parts of Lagos State to support the efforts of Area Commands and Divisional patrol teams already deployed to the fields to tackle the menace of social miscreants and violent crimes perpetrated by hoodlums such as robbery, among others.
He added that operatives of the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were positioned in strategic locations to promptly respond to distress calls while noting that patrols were intensified around markets and stores to prevent hoodlums from stealing and looting.
“Patrol teams are equally deployed to the various communities and streets”, he further said.
The Lagos PPRO disclosed that about 8pm on Friday, 20 suspects were arrested within Ilaje and Ajah communities for gang violence adding that at about 10am on Saturday, Area B command and Apapa Division responded to a distress call at Burma/Creek Road Apapa where seven gangsters who engaged in supremacy battle on the streets were arrested.
“Their mission on the streets is mainly to steal and loot under the guise of supremacy battle”, he submitted.
He however assured members of the public of adequate protection of their lives and properties throughout the lockdown period and beyond saying, “In case of emergency, call the following numbers 09010512285, 09010512286, 09010512287, 09010512288.”
