Border Closure: NIS, Navy intercepts 12 Nigerians travelling to Cameroon by sea

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a conjunction with the operatives of the Nierian Navy has intercepted twelve (12) Nigerians at Ibaka in Akwa-Ibom state on their way to Cameroon through the sea.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday James, the travellers were apprehended in a boat heading to Cameroon.

The statement observed that the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede had directed the Comptroller of Immigration in Akwa-Ibom to thank the Commander of the Navy Forward Operation Base in Ibaka for their cooperation and vigilance that resulted in the interception of the twelve persons.

“Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service Ibaka Control profiled the twelve persons and equally invited health officials to carry out medical checks and certify them satisfactory for return back to their homes since they were refused departure in view of the border closure by federal government”, the statement said.

It added that the Comptroller of Immigration, Akwa Ibom State command, CIS Livingstone Amadi warned the twelve of them to avoid such journeys until the border was officially opened.
