The Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) has commended the Lagos State Government for the spirited efforts being put in place to contain the coronavirus in the state.
In a statement issued by the President of the media non-governmental foundation, Ajibola Abayomi, JIFORM praised the government for the laudable and elaborate logistics acquired to contain the spread, trace the contacts and treat those who were infected with the disease.
“We have noted with zeal, the aggressive combing of over 1.5 million households within weeks in order to checkmate community transmission of the disease. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has shown proactiveness, sincerity, care, responsive and responsible governance particularly at this trying period.
“These were evident in the successful management of over two hundred patients that had been discharged so far from the state owned health facilities. What a great feat.”
Ajibola extolled the inspirational and sterling leadership qualities so far displayed by Governor Sanwo-Olu who doubles as the incident commander of COVID-19 Response Team in the state.
These proven attributes according to him had distinguished the Governor as someone with the capacity and capability to manage the affairs of the state as a true crisis manager.
“Those are what we expect from others in position of power instead of playing politics with the hope of cornering funds from the federal government. We want to advise some state executives to sit up and do the needful.
“With the standard being set by Lagos as we gradually step into era of easing the lockdown by May 4, 2020, one had seen planning and proactiveness in actions of the Lagos Governor”, he said.
The JIFORM President expressed satisfaction with the various palliatives measures put in place by the administration to support Lagosians to cushion the effects of the lockdown noting that Governor Sanwo-Olu was the first governor to make the move in Nigeria.
While asking the government to do more on the palliatives for the needy, he lauded the numerous corporate organisations for their supports to the state.
Saluting the Nigerian workers as they mark workers day, he applauded the media and health workers as front liners making huge sacrifices to save humanity.
Ajibola enjoined residents in Lagos state to continue to support the government in the bid to flatten the curve and overcome the pandemic.
