Obiano inaugurates Anambra State Community Policing Advisory Committee

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has inaugurated the Anambra State Community Policing Advisory Committee (SCPAC) in order to enhance safety and security in the state.

The event which took place at the Conference Hall of Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia in Anambra State the Chairman Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, (Obi of Onitsha), the Deputy Inspector-general of Police, DIG Celestine Okoye who represented the Inspector-general of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, the Assistant Inspector-general of Police in charge of Zone 9 headquarters, Umuahia, AIG Baba Tijjani and the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP John Abang.

It would be recalled that on the 13th February, 2020, a Security Summit was held in Enugu State and discussed on “Strategic Partnership for Effective Community Policing in the South East Geo-Political Zone.

The summit which comprised of various stakeholders including the Inspector-general of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, all Governors of the South Eastern States, IGP management team, AIGs, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, Civil Society Organisations among others took a far reaching decision on how the region would key into the federal government initiative on Community Policing in order to enhance safety and security in the region.

The event was convened within the framework of Community Policing Initiative and as part of the strategies of the Nigeria Police Force to employ an all- inclusive strategy towards addressing numerous internal security challenges in the South East geopolitical zone through a people oriented approach where the public would be part of and not apart from via constant engagements and collaborations taking into cognizance the existing security initiatives instituted by the governors of the states in the South East at the grass root levels.

“It was in view of the foregoing that today 4/6/2020, the Anambra State Community Policing Advisory Committee (SCPAC) was inaugurated at the Conference Hall of Governor’s Lodge, Awka in Anambra State”, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police command, SP Haruna Mohammed said in a statement in Awka yesterday.

Members of the State Community Policing Advisory Committee inaugurated are; DIG Valentine Ntomchukwu (Rtd.), CP Ikechukwu Aduba (Rtd.), all heads of security agencies in the state, representatives of traditional rulers, religious bodies, President Generals and Association of Anambra Town Union (ASATU), ALGON Chairman, Chairman, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and representative of the Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC).
