…As CP ordered an in-depth investigation

A Police Sergeant identified as Mr. Felix Okago yesterday lost his life while on a special duty in a federal government facility in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Trouble started when one Police Inspector identified as Monday Gabriel of No. 21 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Abuja also on a special duty in a federal government facility in Ikoyi, Lagos, went berserk and started shooting sporadically.

In an attempt to escape, he took a patrol van and headed towards third mainland bridge, shooting as he was escaping. He was however intercepted by Policemen from Bariga Division along Akoka, disarmed and handcuffed. The rifle and vehicle were recovered.

The Police Sergeant, Felix Okago died as a result of gunshot injuries sustained during the shooting while others escaped unhurt.

The corpse of the deceased Sergeant was later deposited in the mortuary for autopsy while the Inspector was taken to Police Hospital for medical examination as he presented signs of mental depression.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police command, DSP Bala Elkana, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigation to take over the investigation.

“The Command deeply condoles with the family of the fallen colleague who paid the supreme price in service to his fatherland”, the statement said.
