… As Youth Commissioner receives State Coordinator, others
Anambra State Government is to strengthen its working relationship with the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) to ensure adequate welfare of Corps members serving in the State.
In addition, government will tackle some of the challenges militating against smooth operations of the body to enable it function optimally.
Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Prof. Theresa Obiekezie, stated this while receiving a delegation from the Agency led by its State Coordinator, Mr. Kehinde Aremu, on a familiarization visit to her office.
According to her, state government will address contentious issues raised by the agency pertaining to welfare, posting of Corps members to public and private schools as well as infrastructural challenges.
She noted that existing synergy with the agency would be promoted to realize set objectives for youth training and development, adding that government placed high premium on youth related issues.
The Commissioner, then, enjoined Corps members serving in the state to maximize training and empowerment opportunities created for them at various stages of their service year to impact on their lives and the larger society.
While describing the NYSC scheme as an exciting programme that needed to be experienced, she called on Corps members to imbibe virtues derivable from the scheme in order to build a better society.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Kehinde Aremu, appreciated the state government for provision of infrastructural and support services to the agency especially the completion of its permanent orientation camp at Umuawulu.
While praising youth friendly Governor of the state for impacting on it, he said the agency had been enjoying a robust working relationship with the ministry that needed to be sustained.
He used the occasion to announce the recognition of the Commissioner as the new Chairman, NYSC Governing Board in the state.
Present during the event were Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Louisa Ezeanya, Director General, Digital Entrepreneurship Office, Mr. Ifeanyi Aniagoh and other senior officers of the agency.
