Man, 31, in Police net for allegedly defiling a 4-year old girl

A 31-year old man, Sunday Eyim of Oruana Village, Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra has been arrested by the Police operative attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), Awka following a tip off.

Confirming the arrest in a statement in Awka yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police command, SP Haruna Mohammed disclosed that the suspect had on the 11th July, 2020 allegedly defiled a 4 years old girl in his room.

Mohammed added that the scene was visited by police detectives and victim taken to the hospital for medical examination where penetration was confirmed.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP John Abang had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal investigation Department, Awka for discreet investigation after which suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.

He said, “Consequently, members of the public particularly parents/guardians are enjoined to be watchful and caution their children against strangers and also encourage them to report any person making sexual advance or harassment on them to enable the parent take a proactive measure before it becomes intractable.

“The public should also be security conscious at all times and always report suspicious rape cases in their neighborhood to the nearest Police stations for prompt action.”
