The Lagos branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has floated a resource centre at its head office in Alausa, Ikeja for real estate and other professional development.
The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for training of all kinds of professionals and has a COVID-19 sitting capacity of between 10 and 15 participants.
Chairman of the branch, ESV Adedotun Bamigbola said the organization decided to invest in the resource centre as part of efforts to bridge knowledge gap in the real estate sector, which currently contributes only 7% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
He said, “We have taken a very critical look at the real estate sector and have observed a wide knowledge gap over the years. This is helping quackery in the housing sector and contributes to larger extent, to the poor outing being recorded by the sector, such as the very low contribution to GDP.
“So, to start with, in addition to helping the regulators, who have also laid standards, we decided to establish the resource centre at our branch office where we can train players in the real estate business. The NIESV resource centre is meant for every player in the housing industry, including real estate practitioners who can acquire the necessary professional skills needed to meet the required standards in their businesses and professions.
“The centre is also open to professionals in other sectors of the economy for training and acquisition of skills in the various fields. During this time, not many people are needed to be in an enclosure, so we have reduced the capacity of 10 people to comply with government’s COVID-19 regulations, while reaching hundreds of participants via virtual transmission.”
He urged anyone who wants to use the resource centre to contact the branch’s office through Whatsapp message to 08037363024 or email niesv-lagosbranch@niesvlagos.com.
“To encourage regular usage by our members and other professionals, we are offering participants free tea break in addition to our very competitive rate available in our business environment. People using the centre across a number of days will also be considered for some discount,” Bamigbola added.
