A middle aged man of about six feet tall whose identity is not yet known was at about 11pm on Thursday knocked down by a hit and run vehicle, close to NNPC mega filling station along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway Awka.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police command, SP Haruna Mohammed said the victim became unconscious as a result of the incident.

According to the statement, Police operatives attached to B’ Division, Awka visited the scene and rushed victim to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching hospital, Amaku, Awka where he was certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor on duty.

It added that the corpse of the man was deposited at the same hospital mortuary for postmortem examination and preservation.

“Meanwhile, efforts to locate the relatives of the victim proved abortive since the date of the accident. Victim wore long sleeve shirt and blue jean at the time of the accident.

“In view of the foregoing, the command urged the public whose relations got missing and matched above description to report at B’ Division, Awka for possible identification and claim of the victim, please”, it said.
