As part of activities lined up for the final journey of its late Tincan Island chapter Vice Chairman, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) last Friday held a Christian wake in honour of Forwarder Kenneth Chidozie Okoro-Obi who died about two months ago after a brief illness.
The wake which was organized by the Tincan Island chapter of the association witnessed the presence of delegates from the NAGAFF headquarters, members of Okigwe Maritime Forum, members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria (ASIMPIN), friends and associates of late Forwarder Ken Okoro-Obi as well as members of his immediate family.
Speaking during the event, the Chairman of NAGAFF, Tincan Island Chapter, Chief Azubuike Ekweozor while regretting the loss of his Vice, called on the immediate family of the deceased to take solace in the word of God as well as believe in his promises that it was not the end of it all.
Ekweozor who was represented at the event by the Secretary of NAGAFF in Tincan Island port, Mr. Godfrey Emeka Nwosu while commiserating with the family said, “you have a life to live after this moment.”
Assuring them of the association’s support, he said, “We also want to assure you that you have our support, at the appropriate time, through the management of the high command; you will be communicated of other procedures as we do it in NAGAFF.”
He however, appreciated all who attended the wake for making out time to come and be with them in this moment of grief occasioned by the demise of the executive Vice Chairman of NAGAFF in Tincan Island chapter, Forwarder Kenneth Chidozie Okoro-Obi.
“I want to thank you, most especially, our friends from our sister association, friends and associates of Forwarder Kenneth Okoro-Obi, including the staff of Globe Gate West Africa Limited that made out time to be here, we appreciate you”, he stated.
On his part, the former Administrator of NAGAFF, Tincan Island chapter, Pirnce Ignatius Nwachukwu described late Ken Okoro-Obi as a very gentle, intelligent, honest, sincere, credible and transparent person while he lived even as he expressed shock at his sudden demise.
He said, “It was so unfortunate, so sad for this man to die at this level. Somebody we are looking at as a Headquarter material, the founder has even said it severally but unfortunately, he could not live beyond this time. It is only God that knows what happened to this man.
“So, right now, I am saying, Ken, wherever you are, may the almighty God continue to receive you in his bosom through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
Also speaking, the founder of NAGAFF represented by Chief Chris Agbawodikeizu regretted that members of the association, friends and associates of late Ken Okoro-Obi had to gather for him in that manner, saying, “We are supposed to be here in our usual characteristics when we gather to rejoice every evening but today, it is a different ball game and we say to God be the glory.”
“My message for all of you gathered here is for you to take heart because Kenneth was one of the best members of NAGAFF that was being looked upon to take up the mantle of leadership in the nearest future but unfortunately, death has overpowered him, we cannot blame God. So, I want to tell all of you here to take heart, we have lost a very strong and illustrious son of NAGAFF of whom we have bestowed a serious hope in him but we cannot fight God. So, let everybody take heart”, he said.
Late Mr. Kenneth Chidozie Okoro-Obi was born on 12th August, 1965 in Imo state. He moved down to Lagos in 1992 where he joined a business as a clearing agent and had since acquired a wealth of experience in the field.
