At least, one person has been confirmed dead; while another is still trapped when one storey building suddenly collapsed at Umuota village, Obosi, in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, on Sunday, September 20.

It was gathered that one person, a woman of about 40 years old, whose name is yet to be ascertained, was confirmed dead by a medical doctor; while her baby was responding to treatments; adding that her corpse has been deposited at St. Edward Mortuary in Obosi, for preservation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, also confirmed the development in an official statement, Sunday evening.

“The incident occurred at about 4:30pm on Sunday. Scene of the incident was cordoned off by police operatives attached to Obosi Division and other security agencies, in order to prevent hoodlums from gaining advantage to loot; while effort is ongoing to rescue other victims suspected to have been trapped in the collapsed building.

“The case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statements read in part.

President-General of Obosi Development Union, Sir Daniel Igbokwubili, confirmed the development when contacted by our reporter.

He said: “Yes, there was a building collapse at Obiofia-Umuota village, Obosi. The building belonged to Late Ebenezer Onwubufoh, a former bank manager.

“Two persons were trapped: a man and a woman. The woman has been recovered and deposited in the mortuary; while efforts are being made by the community to recover the body of the man supposedly trapped in the debris.”
