…Says no General Assembly of Farmers, election hold

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has alleged that the wrangling in the association was being fueled by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono even as it maintained that no General Assembly of Farmers or elections were conducted in accordance with AFAN constitution in Kano.

The Assistant National Publicity Secretary, AFAN, Mallam Salisu Mukhtar who made the position of the association on the matter known in a statement observed that the meeting  in  Kano  between the 8th and  10th  of April, 2021  was merely  convened  to  celebrate  the  new  18-year old  bride  of  the Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji  Mohammed Sabo Nanono.

He further noted that “The  recent  gathering  of  some  ill-informed  farmers  in  Kano  did  not satisfy  the  dictates  of  the  provision  of  AFAN constitution regarding the convening of the  General Assembly of Farmers (GAF).”

Quoting the Article 8 of the AFAN Constitution, the Assistant National Publicity Secretary, AFAN said that the General  Assembly  of  farmers  shall  be  convened  annually  to ascertain  the  performance  of  the  association, members  of  the Board of Trustees (BOT), members  of  the National  Executive  Council  of  the  association, the Secretary, Treasurer  and  three  other  principal  officers  of  each  member association,  Secretary,  Treasurer  and  three  other  principal  officers  of  each state and  FCT  branches  of  AFAN among others were all  required  to  attend  GAF.

“The  presence  of  the  HMA  and  the  Deputy  Governor  of  Kano  State are  not  provided  for  in  ARTICLE  8”, he added.

Mukhtar therefore warned that “Anyone  who  transacts  AFAN  business  with  Faruk  Rabi’u  Mudi  and his  group  is  at  their  own peril  because  they  are  lawless  and their actions are  persistently contemptuous to the suit they filed  in the Federal High Court, Abuja.”
