The Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Barr. Samuel Nwakohu has assured the freight forwarders of a more rewarding profession in the days ahead.
Nwakohu who gave this assurance while reacting to comments during the just concluded workshop on digitization of cargo import and export service and business integrity in the Nigerian maritime industry, recalled that he had done two years in office adding that “When I came in, I told you that there is a new kid on the floor, this kid is result oriented.”
He however pointed out that his second year in office was deeply interrupted by Covid-19 pandemic noting that even though they worked throughout the period, their focus was differen; keeping the freight forwarders alive and keeping themselves alive while thanking God they achieved that to a large extent.
“So, we are in 2021, I have two more years to go but I can assure you that by the time I go, you will keep remembering CRFFN. Between now and when I go, a lot will happen both to the old ones and the young ones. The old ones who cannot start a computer, we will make sure they can start a computer because the young ones will not always be there to help you. The young ones that can start a computer, we will teach you how to use the computer and expand your business, we will bring it home.
“Part of the problem I have always heard is this; ‘customs are giving us problem, this is happening on the road, we have police people’ and all that. ‘By the time our cargo gets to the warehouse or gets to the owner, we have paid so much money.’ All that will change but I need your cooperation because we have keyed in, we have found channels that we can collaborate and do something that will impact on you and your business positively.
“You see, if you have difficulty and you don’t tell us, there is no way we can help you. I am not on the field with you, even if I have people doing monitoring and evaluation; it is not possible for them to be at all places at all time. If you have problem with the customs, if you don’t write to my office or call or send an email, there is no way I would know. But if you let us know, leave the rest to us, we will get result. It is not every case we may be able to solve on the spot but when we pursue most of your legitimate cases, then you will understand what we can do”, he assured.
