Gov. Ayade, Keyamo, Bulkachuwa, others for C’River Migration Summit today

This morning, the attention of the international community will shift to Cross River State as Governor Benedict Ayade and other international figures both within and outside Nigeria converge on Transcorp Hotel, Calabar for a migration summit to focus on utilizing the gains of migration to advance development in the Nigerian economy.

The personalities include Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Minister of State Labour and Employment; Senate Committee Chairman on Foreign Affairs, Senator Adamu Mohammad Bulkachuwa; member of African Union Labour-Migration Advisory Committee, HE Rev. Dr. A.K Ocansey; Susan Gong, the Chief Executive Officer of Altec Global Canada; Professor Byron Price from the Diaspora Innovation Institute, City University, New York; Bolanle Sarumi Senior, the Special Adviser to Oyo State on Diaspora Matters, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and others.

The event is being organized by the Migration Control Services Agency (MCA), Cross River State in conjunction with the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) comprising over 300 journalists focusing on migration reportage across the globe.

The Director General of the MCA, Prince Michael NkuAbuo Wellington (JP) in a statement issued by Ajibola Abayomi, President of JIFORM and the Spokesman for the summit confirmed that there would be an official launch of Decent Job against Deadly work in the Gulf Nation alongside with Work and Study programmes in Canada, America and Europe at the event.

He also hinted said the summit would combine both physical and virtual presentations would be beamed live on several social media platform and some international media.

According to him, submissions at the end of the conference would be forwarded to the federal government and the national assembly with a view to deepening migration and diaspora policies in the country.

Professor Michael Okom, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar will lead the presentations as guest lecturer while Dr. Ocansey, will deliver a keynote address on solutions to the deadly works Africans were being exposed to in the Middle East.

Others invited to the occasion were National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP); Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM); office of the Inspector General of Police; Nigeria Immigration Service and government appointees both in Cross River and other states.
