A frontline governorship aspirant in the forthcoming November 6, 2021 Governorship election in Anambra State, under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor has assured that if elected, his government will ensure that Anambra State has a functional seaport to enhance trade and commerce in the state.
Hon. Okafor who gave the assurance when he visited Ihiala Local Government Area of the state in furtherance of his consultations with major stakeholders in the party yesterday, said that Ihiala Local Government Area was very important in his desire to build a VISA ECONOMY especially with its proximity to Owerri, Nnewi, and Onitsha.
According to him, “I believe that apart from road infrastructure, one of the greatest means to trigger the economy of Ihiala is by resuscitating Oseakwa deep seaport on the Ulasi River that is linked to Osemoto Oguta River, Imo State, which is believed to be the deepest River in Nigeria.
“His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano has built an airport, but the truth remains that we need a functional seaport in Anambra State and Ihiala represents the future, especially with the ongoing 1500MW Gas Power Plant currently being developed in Okija, by Century Power Generation.”
While at Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Okafor who is also member representing Nnewi North State Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly posited that the local government was very strategic in his agricultural policy to position Anambra State as a leading player in food production in Nigeria and Africa.
He said, “Through our VISA ECONOMY, I intend to consolidate on the agricultural revolution of His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano by investing in the agro-economic zones of Anambra by building the needed infrastructures and creating the enabling environment for the establishment of agro-based industries, increased food production, job creation, and economic prosperity.
“These are some of the plans I shared with members of my party, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ogbaru Local Government, this evening. I am humbled by their support.”
