The founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has expressed sadness over the inability of the new Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Hon. Emmanuel Jime to attend the reception held in honour of his predecessor, Barr. Hassan Bello by NAGAFF in Lagos recently.

Aniebonam who made his feeling known in a chat with journalists in Lagos wondered why Jime did not attend the ceremony which he said was a good opportunity for him to identify with stakeholders and see things for himself.

He argued that there was no way the NSC staff who attended the event could tell him what exactly happened at the event adding that it would have been an opportunity for him to see that the standards were quite high.

He, however, pointed out that the new NSC boss was coming with high credentials having served as the Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zone (NEPZA) while hoping that he would march what he met on ground.

His words, “I wonder why the new Executive Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Jime didn’t attend that programme. It was a good opportunity to identify with stakeholders and see things for himself. There is no way the NSC staff could report exactly what happened to him. It would have also been an opportunity for him to see that the standards are quite high. Nevertheless, he is someone who is coming with high credentials having also serves as the Managing Director of Nigeria Exports Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).

Speaking on the event, Aniebonam who is also the National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) said, “That celebration showed that the Nigerian public is yearning for quality leadership. You could see how maritime stakeholders poured out their hearts to state that he (Hassan Bello) discharged his statutory duties in an exemplary manner.

“If you listened to the SON official, Mr. Naif Lawal, you would see that he took the programme in a different manner because he couldn’t understand why an association like NAGAFF known for criticizing (government agents) would go out to lavishly celebrate a public servant.

“Hassan Bello is an epitome of leadership. Leadership has to do with character; humility, friendship and these are qualities that enable you operate seamlessly. No leadership thrives on rancor, bitterness or enmity with the stakeholders.”
