Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has commissioned a research into the recent attacks on Police and security formations in Imo state by yet to be identified gunmen.
The Executive Director, RULAAC, Mr. Okechukwu Nwanguma who disclosed this at a media briefing in Lagos on Thursday said that the research was aimed at identifying all the Police stations so far attacked as well as to understand the patterns of the attacks and to identify those who may be responsible for the attacks.
Nwanguma stated that there have been a lot of theories on who was responsible for the attacks adding that “some say IPOB ESN, some say unknown gunmen and some say ungun known men, some equally say mercenaries sent from outside the east, so, it is not clear, these are all possibilities.”
“Like I told you, we have commissioned a research and we will come up with a report on what we found about these attacks; how many Police stations were attacked in Imo, what was the number of casualties, how many Police officers were killed, how many were injured, how many arms and ammunitions were taken away from the Police and the possible identities of those responsible.
“For now, I don’t have an answer except to say that people point fingers to different people including the so called unknown gunmen and I don’t know why we should be talking about unknown gunmen in state where we have law enforcement and security agencies. That means, there is no intelligence, you can’t be talking about unknown gunmen when they repeatedly attack. They attack today, they attack tomorrow, they attack next tomorrow and you say they are unknown?
“So, this is part of the research we have already commissioned will unravel and we will also invite you to give you the report of our findings”, he said.
