…CREFFPON reacts

Indications are rife that the election of the freight forwarders into the Governing Board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) scheduled to hold on October 9, 2021 may be postponed after all.

This is because, the screening of candidates in the Eastern and Western ports earlier scheduled to at the Rock View Hotels, Apapa, Lagos on the 21st and 22nd September, 2021 did not hold.

Primetime Reporters gathered that most of the candidates who defied the heavy downpour this morning to be at  the Rock View Hotel, Apapa  screening venue, after loitering around at the reception hall and a recheck on the main bar of the hotel ( slated screening hall), left the hotel premises disappointed, complaining of poor information dissemination process by the Electoral Committee.

Reacting to the development, the Congregation of Registered Freight Forwarding Professionals of Nigeria (CREFFPON) stated that the indefinite postponement of the candidates screening exercise earlier scheduled for the 21st and 22nd September, 2021 in Lagos was as a result of open memos and petitions that flooded the office of the Honourable Minister of Transportation.

Mr. Edwin Chukwudire Obi, Desk Officer, CREFFPON, who disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday said, “Information reaching the CREFFPON data collating, monitoring and intelligent group has it that following the open memos and petitions that flooded the office of the Hon. Minister of Transportation; Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, after consultations with the top management team, resolved to the indefinite postponement of the slated candidates screening exercise in lieu of the publicized CRFFN Governing Council election schedule for 21st & 22nd September, 2021.

“With this postponement of screening dates which alters the publicized electoral time table, the implication is that the whole election suffers a possible total postponement till further notice.”

Obi disclosed that the sudden postponement took some accredited freight forwarding associations which yesterday scheduled a meeting for this morning to discuss and conclude on the proposed sharing formula arrangement of 6: 6 :1 :1 : 1 into the Governing Council and to combine voting force, “a tactical repeat of the 2018 electoral blunder.”

“The CREFFPON wishes to thank the Hon. Minister of Transportation for his prompt intervention over the publicized CRFFN Governing Council Election characterized by many electoral organization flaws.

“May God grant you greater wisdom in the days ahead as we pray for the re-strengthening and professional reposition of the freight forwarding profession in Nigeria”, Obi said.

Meanwhile, all efforts made by our correspondent to speak with the Chairman of the Electoral Committee were unsuccessful as those contacted were unwilling to release the telephone number of the Chairman to him as at press time.
