The Governorship Candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo (Overdose), has sympathised with the good people of Ihiala over the unfortunate fire that gutted the Nkwo Ogbe market in Ihiala on Sunday afternoon.

Dr. Nwankwo in his consoling message said he was deeply shocked by the unfortunate fire incident that led to the loss of goods, market stalls and buildings worth millions of Naira.

He, however expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost. He promised to reach out to the victims to ascertain the true extent of losses incurred as well as explore ways to alleviate their sufferings and prevent future occurrence.

He commended effort of the gallant youths who came as first responders to help contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further. Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo however expressed disappointment on the efficiency of our State Fire Service noting that they still lack adequate personnel and resources to respond to fire emergencies across the state in real time.

Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo further appealed to the state government on the need to ensure provision of basic fire fighting equipment in major markets across the state to stem the tide of frequent market fires especially as we approach the harmattan season.

He also called on traders and Ndi Anambra to be safety conscious and adhere strictly to fire prevention regulations and advisories as provided by the state fire service in order to reduce incidences of fire outbreak.
