The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Kwara State chapter has condemned in totality abuse of minors and a gender based violence recorded in Ganmo Community area of Kwara state. The committee learnt the incidents happened in one Islamic School named Misbahudeen around Ganmo area few days ago.

In a viral video, some male students were seen maltreating and manhandling a female student and a male student for reasons best known to them.

In a statement signed by Afolabi Lukman Idris Afees and made available to NAOSRE, CDHR noted that during the course of investigation, it gathered that those students were punished on the authority of their teachers for attending birthday party of one of the seniors in the same Islamic School.

“All attempts by the organization to reach the victims proof abortive. This incident is bad and condemnable. It is a typical case of gender based violence and child molestation as well as an abuse of privilege which need to be investigated”, the Committee said.

CDHR however, called on appropriate authority to rise up to this challenge, investigate whatever issues surrounding these molestations and appropriate sanctions and checks put in place to forestall reoccurrence. “The Kwara state government, the Nigerian Police, Kwara state command, the Nigerian Security and  Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other relevant agencies should rise up against these inhuman treatments to prevent such abuses in future”, it added.

It further called on the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development and Kwara Board of Arabic Education to investigate, sanitise and sanction the Arabic school appropriately.
