The leadership of Southeast Movement for Democracy (SMD) has condemned in strong terms the politically motivated killings in Anambra State allegedly by Andy Uba and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State in their quest to intimidate the citizens of the state so as to take over power in Anambra State by force.

The group in a statement signed by Johnson Okeke (Ochiwar), National Chairman, Southeast Movement for Democracy (SMD), Enugu; Onwuka Akalia Sunday, State Chairman (SMD), Anambra State; Paul Ngoneke, State Chairman (SMD), Ebonyi State; Henry Ugwu, State Chairman (SMD); Enugu State; John Ohia, State Chairman (SMD) Imo State and Kenneth Obimma, State Chairman (SMD), Abia State said, “On this note, we hereby give the Federal Government of Nigeria one week to arrest and persecute Andy Uba and his murderers recruited from Imo and Ebonyi states who are on a killing rampage in Anambra State.”

It added that “The first time Andy Uba wanted to announce his arrival as a big boy in Anambra State politics; he used federal might to kidnap Dr. Chris Ngige who was then a sitting governor, destroyed all state owned properties of Anambra State and subsequently rigged an election by awarding over one million votes to himself. He was however disgraced and booted out of office as a two weeks governor by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“This time around, he has with the help of his fellow killer in Imo State armed and unleashed terror and murderers on the innocent citizens of Anambra State because he wants to be governor by all means. Andy Uba in the last weeks murdered fellow Anambra men in cold blood among them was Dr. Cyril Akunyili, one of the finest doctors in the world.

“Andy Uba wants to create a deadly situation that will scare citizens of the state from coming out to vote on November 6th governorship election so he can rig the election. Everyone knows that Andy Uba and his party are not on ground and cannot will a single ward in the state. He is an outcast as far as Anambra State politics is concerned hence this bloodletting to instill fear into voters to cause voter’s apathy on the election day.”

SMD, however, called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, the Inspector General of Police, IGP  Usman Alkali Baba and all Nigerian security agencies “to immediately put an end to this madness by one man whose inordinate ambition is to destroy and turn Anambra State to Afghanistan.”

“We gave seven days ultimatum to the federal government of Nigeria to arrest Andy Uba or we will commence nationwide action against the murderer called Andy Uba”, the group concluded.
