The management of MMS Plus Newspapers has said that it would launch a reality show – “The Sisterhood” next year to bring a regenerative concept that will change the face of womanhood in the country.
The Publisher, MMS Plus Newspaper, Mr. Kingsley Anaroke who have this hint in a welcome address he presented at the Induction Ceremony of the 2021 Class of MMS Plus Woman of Fortune Hall of Fame with the theme, “Women in Leadership and Governance: Promoting Sustainable Economic Prosperity”, in Lagos on Thursday said that the reality show, hopefully would change the fortunes of women in Nigeria for good.
His words, “An MMS Hall of Famer is a rounded woman and a symbol of excellence personified. So, congratulations to the inductees of today. As part of the things we are trying to do for next year, we intend to bring a regenerative concept that will change the face of womanhood in the country. We call it the Sisterhood which is a reality show that would change things. This is where we are going to see serious reforms talking about women, morals and many things put together. Who is a woman? We are going to define it in that concept.
“I just want to let us understand what is about to come. The Hall of Fame is going to undergo, in two years’ time, a serious reform and reorganization.”
Speaking on the choice of the theme for the event, he stated that it was chosen to address pertinent issues in the lives of women in particular, people in governance, leadership position in both private and public institutions or sectors saying “I am very delighted that we have been able to assemble people; women and men of immense worth and pedigree to do justice to this theme today.”
According to him,” Without pre-empting the content of the lecture today, there are several institutional factors inhibiting sustainable economic progress for women in Nigeria and as we x-ray them today, I urge the Ministry and the relevant institutions to wake from their slumber and drive the needed changes.”
He pointed out that MMS WofHof initiative had over the years, through its pull of women of substance and experts identified education, training, empowerment and essentially, mentorship as areas of intervention to change gender inequality narrative towards meeting the aspiration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as initiated by the United Nations and couched in its 2030 agenda on gender development.
“Interestingly, we as NGO, with the support from our mothers, mentors and corporate sponsors are driving fast in a continuous movement for a change. This explains our core areas of capacity building of all shades and empowerment, role modeling to inspire change from within and leadership as the trigger for transformation. And in our self-estimation, we have collectively done well since 2012 with scores of records of credits with awards and certifications.
“Today, six women of inestimable values who are being inducted into the MMS Hall of Fame for their outstanding records in mentorship, in leadership, humanitarian activities and positive influence and impact on their environment and spheres of operations as well as effective role modeling to the younger generations and even peers.
In her goodwill message, the President, Chartered Institution of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Nigeria, Barr. Mfon Usoro pleaded with Nigerians saying, “When we have opportunity to recommend somebody for higher office, recommend a lady. If you see a lady in a higher office, support her even if your first encounter with her is not what you expected, don’t give up, don’t immediately say, women don’t like working with women because it is not true.
“When you have a female in a high office, be sure that there will be other women. No matter what the situation is, she will bring in other women. So, the womenfolk get the benefits even if it is not you that benefit directly. And when we have that position, we need to make a mark like our former Minister who created the Nigerian Women Trust Fund to encourage women to get into politics knowing that finance is usually some of the bottlenecks. When she created that Fund, I was privileged to felicitate with her when she was a Minister and that one has helped women in the grassroots to venture into politics.
“It is absolutely better that we find a way to make a mark on the project of fellow women. I thank MMS for the consistency in this forum and we are here and we will always support you.”
