The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi will today meet with all the candidates who purchased forms to contest election into the Governing Council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
It will be recalled that the Minister had earlier invited the aspirants to a meeting with him in Abuja last November but failed to meet with them citing exigences of work as reason for his failure.
However, in a letter dated 24th January, 2022 addressed to all the aspirants and signed by the Director, Maritime Services, A.D Suleiman which was sighted by our correspondent, the meeting is to hold today on the 8th Floor, Federal Ministry of Transportation Conference Room, Abuja at 3pm.
The letter reads in part, “Sequel to our earlier letter Ref. No. 4252/S.8/C.15/T/ dated 25th November, 2021 in which the meeting with the Honourable Minister could not hold due to exigences of work. I am directed to invite all contestants who purchased forms for the election into the Governing Board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to a meeting with the Honourable Minister of Transportation.”
Recall that the Governing Council election was earlier scheduled hold in October last year but failed to hold due to disagreement among the freight Forwarders on the mode of the conduct of the election.
While the five freight forwarding associations accredited by the CRFFN were insisting on the sharing formula of 6:6:1:1:1, the independent candidates were of the opinion that the election should be thrown open for all to contest irrespective of whether tnot they belong to any of the five accredited freight forwarding associations.
This development did not go down well with the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Mrs. Magdalene Ajani who scheduled a meeting with the freight forwarding associations in Lagos in October last year.
At the meeting, the freight forwarders failed to agree as they continued to sing in discordant tunes, a development which prompted the Permanent Secretary to issue a two weeks ultimatum to them to come up with an acceptable mode of election.
At the end of the the two weeks, the disagreement continued as they failed to agree prompting the meeting with the Honourable Minister.
