…Vows to drive Innoson motors as official vehicle, wear made in Anambra clothes
The Anambra State Governor-elect, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has said that it is his wish that not one Kobo of Anambra State Government’s money will be spent on his inauguration day.
Soludo who was reacting to reports in some quarters that he opted for half of N20 million Naira for his inauguration said that the report was the figment of the imagination of the writer.
The Governor-elect who questioned the rationale behind spending humongous amount for his inauguration said, “Someone wrote that I said that we won’t spend half of N20 million but actually, I have expressed a wish that I don’t wish one Kobo of Anambra State Government’s money to be spent on the swearing in. I have expressed that wish, not a penny, not a Kobo should be spent on that swearing in.
“At the swearing in, what are we spending for? Just two or four or five or so persons that will be there I will be sworn in – so help me God, I will open office and start working, why are we spending? There is no party, no event, no Atilogwu, there will be nothing! So, I am just showing for what?
“And on the first day like I said at the beginning, I am going to work more than eight hours so that I will line up what should be done. No ceremony, no event, no party, nothing! So, it’s zero. So, actually, not one Kobo will be spent that day. So, the person that is bandying N20 million, I don’t know where he got that from. It’s work, work, work of which you epitomize. Something will happen in Anambra.”
Soludo who is a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also said that he was deliberately putting on Akwaete attire to the occasion in order to make a statement adding that his dress as a governor will be made in Anambra just as his official car will be made by Innoson Motors.
According to him, “I need to make a statement about this (Akwaete). It’s not just a dress, it’s a statement. You know, in the entire south east, this is the only textile thing alive – Akwaete and it’s handmade by the women of Akwaete in Abia state.
“Igbo land is one and we must promote it. Whatever is produced, we said it in our manifesto that whatever is produced in Anambra, you know, made in Anambra but if it’s not produced in Anambra, we can then look elsewhere. But this textile firm and so on and so forth including shoes and others will be back in Anambra.
“My made in Anambra thing is that, I have insisted and I said it during our electioneering campaigns that the official car the governor of Anambra will drive in will be Innoson, my clothes will be made in Anambra. So, I think there’s something going on which you signify and together we will get there.”
