The Adamawa State Police command, yesterday, opened up on a trending story on the social media alleging that a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Baba Zango threatened violent attacks against one Vincent Umeh for buying property near his house in Adamawa State.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya and made available to the National Association of Online Security Reporters (NAOSRE) on Friday, the Police described the publication as an attempt to smear its integrity and therefore, urged members of the public to disregard such publication.
The statement pointed out that the command had not received any complaint of threat from Mr. Vincent Umeh as alleged in an online publication adding that the command had contacted the Senior Police Officer involved in the matter, DCP Ibrahim Baba Zango, an indigene of Adamawa state and found out that the allegations were not true.
“To put the record straight, the police officer had an issue which is civil in nature on the 2nd February, 2022, with his neighbour and being a seasoned and professional police officer, he instituted a direct civil action against the defendants before Upper Area Court in Jimeta.
“But instead of Mr. Umeh to appear in court as expected, he went on social media and published false information just to attract undue sympathy and tarnish the good image of the Force.
“It is important to note that DCP Ibrahim Baba Zango acted in his capacity as a citizen and a neighbour by approaching court for redress not as police or Northerner against Southerner as alleged but as law abiding citizen.
“The police in Adamawa are friendly serving officers and cannot entertain civil cases. The command wishes to advise Mr. Umeh to go to court and sort out his grievances with his neighbor and leave police out of their civil matters”, the statement reads.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Police command, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde while commending journalists for services being rendered to humanity, equally advised them to always verify their reports before disseminating it to the public.
It will be recalled that a news medium (not Primetime Reporters), recently reported that a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Baba Zango allegedly threatened violent attacks against one Vincent Umeh for buying property near his house in Adamawa State.
It was learnt that the Police Chief who hails from Adamawa State allegedly claimed he did not want a Southerner as his next-door neighbour, a development which has sparked off fire on the social media with many calling for the sack of the senior police officer and his subsequent trial.
