The Lagos State Motor Dealers Association has directed all its members to shut down car lots (auto sales showroom) on Friday, February 25, 2022 beginning from the morning till 12 noon.
A statement issued by the General Secretary of the association, Olanira Tia on Thursday explained that the action was in solidarity with the current withdrawal of service at the Lagos ports embarked upon by the freight forwarders against the sharp increase in the cost of clearing a car at the nation’s port.
According to the statement, the decision to shut down all car lots in Lagos in Friday was reached at the general meeting of the association held earlier today in Lagos.
The statement reads, “At the general meeting held on the 24th of February, 2022, the association decided that all members should shut down their car lots (auto sales showroom) on Friday, the 25th of February, 2022 from morning till 12 noon in solidarity with the current strike action embarked upon by the Nigerian Association of Freight Forwarders (clearing agents) against the sharp increase in the cost of clearing a car at the nation’s ports.
“Auto dealers should understand that this body is fighting our course because the higher the cost of clearing a car, the more unaffordable it becomes.
“It was also decided that any auto dealer that fails to abide by this decision will have his/her showroom chained (locked up) by our taskforce till Monday the 28th of February, 2022 as the only penalty for disobedience.”
