… Agrees with market, transport union leaders to end Monday sit-at-home
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has directed all public servants to henceforth report at their places of work on Mondays as they do on other workdays.
The Anambra State Head of Service, Barr. Theodora Igwegbe who disclosed this in a circular in Awka on Friday warned that absence from duty on Mondays or any other official workday without approval would be viewed as serious misconduct which she said would attract appropriate sanctions.
Igwegbe who observed that the directive was with immediate effect, therefore, urged political office holders, Permanent Secretaries and all Heads of non-ministerial Departments to disseminate the content of the circular to all public servants under their supervision and also monitor compliance.
The circular which was addressed to the Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and twenty one others reads, “Following the need to reposition the service for better performance and productivity, His Excellency, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has directed that all Public Servants should henceforth report at their places of work on Mondays as they do on other workdays.
“Consequently, absence from duty on Mondays or any other official workday without approval will be viewed as serious misconduct which will attract appropriate sanctions.
“This directive takes immediate effect.
“Political Office holders, Permanent Secretaries and all Heads of Non-ministerial Departments are to disseminate the content of this circular to all Public Servants under their supervision and also monitor compliance.
In another development, Governor Soludo has said that the state government had further agreed with the market and transport union leaders to put an end to the “Monday sit-at-home” that had proven to be counter-productive.
The Governor who stated this in a statement he issued on his Facebook wall on Friday pointed out that “Our people are losing productive hours and competitiveness to the activities of criminal elements who have taken advantage of this self-defeating strategy to destroy the economy of our dear State. This has to stop and immediately too.”
According to him, “I have just concluded the first in what would become a regular interaction with market leaders and leaders of various transport unions in the State. Part of our interaction bordered on the welfare of our traders, artisans and business owners.
“I reiterated the commitment of the State to phase out the old method of revenue collection. The new method we would deploy, will leverage the use of technology and ensure that a larger percentage of government revenues from this source fully comes into government coffers for effective use.
“We have further agreed with the Market and Transport union leaders to put an end to the “Monday sit at home” that has proven to be counter-productive.”
