… Tasks Presidents-General, Councillors to ensure equitable distribution
The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Ogo Ekwueme has distributed the palm seedlings ceded to the local government by the Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture to the 16 communities in the area.
Speaking during the distribution exercise which held at the local government headquarters in Ajalli recently, Hon. Ekwueme revealed that the seedlings were part of the efforts by the Chukwuma Soludo led administration at revitalizing the agricultural sector as the mainstay of the state government.
He also said that distribution of the seedlings to residents of the state free of charge by the state government was designed to boost the economy of the communities, local government areas and the state in general adding that if the economy of the state must be sustained, it must move away from over dependent on handouts from the monthly federal allocation to states and local government.
While urging the Presidents-General and Councillors of the various communities in Orumba North to ensure that the seedlings get to the intended people at the grassroots, he urged them to empower the communities with them.
The Mayor equally begged them to handle the seedlings with care while on transit to their communities and during distribution to the people urging them to observe standard practice in planting the seedlings to yield the expected result.
The Chairman, thereafter, performed the symbolic planting of the palm seedling at the local government headquarters to flag off the exercise while advising the Presidents-General and the Councillors to do same in their various communities to demonstrate to the people the best method of planting the seedlings.
Present during the ceremony were the Deputy Transition Chairman/Supervisor for Agriculture, Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Henry Madu, Head of Local Government Administration, Barr. Williams Uduchukwu, the Secretary, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Orumba North Chapter, Barr. Christian Onyemelukwe (Enyioha Nanka), Woman Leader of APGA, Orumba North among other dignitaries.
