… Mulls mobile court to try offenders

The Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Engr. Ogo Ekwueme, yesterday monitored the monthly sanitation exercise in Oko community as directed by the Anambra State Government.

Ekwueme who mobilized the leadership, youths and residents of the community for the monthly environmental sanitation, monitored the exercise between the First City Monument Bank, FCMB and Total Petrol station in Oko which harbours large concentration of commercial activities and generates enormous waste.

Speaking to the media on his assessment of the exercise, Hon. Ekwueme said, “Luckily, everyone is putting hands together trying to clear the gutters and trying to keep the community neat and we hope this is going on across the whole local government. But there’s need for a lot of improvement and we’ll work hard to make sure by September sanitation, that there will be total compliance.”

He added that enforcement is a tough but necessary tool to ensure compliance when managing people on a large scale. To this, the Mayor hinted that, “Next month will probably have a mobile court around as well as the police. Anyone who is caught, will immediately be tried and fined.”

“We must support the government of Prof. Charles Soludo, he himself set example and said he wants a cleaner, greener, liveable and prosperous Anambra State for us all and it starts with the environment, it starts with cleanliness, for maybe, three hours on the last Saturday of every month to keep the environment clean.

“We appreciate those who have actually come out to help and we plead with others who don’t take it serious to start taking it seriously so we can have a cleaner, greener, healthier Orumba North and Anambra in general”, he added.
