The executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has flagged off the Nanka-Isuofia bypass to enhance free movement of people between Aguata and Orumba North Local Government Areas of the State.
The road which measured 2.2 kilometers connects Aguata and Orumba North Local Government Areas and will be handled by AG Vision Construction Company.
Addressing the people of the area who turned out in their numbers to receive him, Governor Soludo disclosed that he had come to flag off the road which he described as a major bypass adding that flood had threatened many residents there.
“There was a time I wanted to travel on this road and was told that the road was not accessible to bicycle not to talk of vehicle. I earlier asked the contractor handling this project where the flood coming from this road will be discharged and he assured me that there will be catchment pits along the drains and that they have designated some points where they will be sited so that the flood will be properly discharged” he said.
Informing that he had come to give the road a permanent solution as it appeared that it was the worst road around the vicinity, he added, “as it is written on my cap, Solution is Here and we will solve it.”
“This road is small but of strategic importance. If you are traveling from Nnewi to Oko, you don’t need to go to Ekwulobia roundabout, all you need to do is to pass through this road and before you know it, you are in Oko, the same experience while returning.
“There are other roads that are as strategic as this one which will decongest Ekwulobia such that people traversing Aguluezechukwu and Uga through Awka will get to their destinations without having to pass through the stress of Ekwulobia roundabout.
“So, we have come today to solve this problem and it will be solved. We will use this road this Christmas. Our road crisis, we will keep solving them” the governor further said.
Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ifeanyi Okoma revealed that as at two weeks ago when they visited the road, the road was not motorable saying that today, it’s motorable.
“However, it’s not done yet, this is not how we construct our roads, this is not the kind of gutters we construct, what we are constructing is different. This road will be stone based and cement stabilization and the contractor will guarantee that this road will last for 20 years before it will be touched again and the stone base will be 6 inches with cement. So, it will solve a lot of problem”, he added.
On his part, a representative of the construction company confirmed that the road would be delivered on or before December 20, 2022. His words, “the road will be finished, motorable, asphalted pavement with drainage on both sides. It will take care of all the waters coming all the way.”
Also speaking, the Member representing Orumba North State Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Aforka, while thanking the governor for constructing the road, described the road as very significant as it connects Aguata and Orumba North Local Government Areas.
“I want to assure all that is present here that the Governor is not here to play politics with the road. There are so many roads which the governor had gone to flag off and each of the roads he flagged off, he had paid the contractor up to 50 percent of the contractual sum and he gives 20 years guarantee. So, there’s no need to entertain any fear or assume that the contractor will abandon this road”, he assured.
Present during the event were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Ogo Ekwueme and his Aguata Local Government Area counterpart, Prince Chibueze Oforbuike, APGA Senatorial candidate for Anambra South, Hon. Chris Azubogu, APGA House of Representatives candidate for Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Sir Eric Eze and his Aguata counterpart, Chief Dom Okafor, Traditional Ruler of Isuofia among other dignitaries.
