The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Ogo Ekwueme has called on all schools, parents, guardians, care givers and the communities to shun all forms of violence against children rather inculcate and counsel them on the culture of love, peace and patriotism.

Ekwueme who made this call today in an address he delivered in an event to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration at the Council’s headquarters, Ajalli, said that children are fundamental in the growth and development of this nation, Nigeria. According to him, they (children) represented the essence of their future as a nation. “Therefore, government has set policies and programmes to thrive in a stable and secured environment to protect the children against all forms of violence”, he stated.

He observed that due to the security challenges in the country, the nation’s children had been placed in a sorry state adding that “a lot of our children have died, became victims of sexual exploitation, even by the so called adults who are supposed to care and protect them. The above security threats has made the incumbent government of His Excellency, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to set up programmes that will keep our children busy and also be useful to themselves.”

He continued, “My beloved children, you are resilient, brilliant and ingenious which made me to be proud of you. As we celebrate you all today, be alive to your responsibility to your parents, teachers and the community. I also urge you, my beloved children, with every breath of our lives, to lift our great country Nigeria high.”

Speaking on behalf of all the children in Orumba North, little Miss Nwankwo Chineche of the New Generation International Nursery and Primary School, Ajalli thanked the government for making it possible for the children of Orumba North to interact with one another after several years of abstaining from the likes of this function as a result of insecurity. While appreciating all concerned in making the day a success, she urged all the children to keep the spirit high as they celebrate.

She, however, encouraged and pleaded with their parents, guardians, educators and indeed, all the stakeholders in the education sector to strive so hard to make the children of Orumba North to be academically sound and progressive in order to compete favourably with their colleagues in other local governments areas as she commit to continual prayer for the governance of Anambra State under the leadership of Mr. Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Hon. Ogo Ekwueme and indeed, all the Transition Committee members for a nice work so far.

“Our prayer is that God will equip and strengthen you all to curb the level of insecurity and abduction of innocent children amongst other ills in the society. It is also my wish to plead with my fellow children to always hearken to words of wisdom knowing that they are the leaders of tomorrow “, she said.

The event which was attended by the Deputy Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Honourable Henry Madu, the traditional ruler of Ndiokolo community, Eze C.C. Okoli, the new Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Orumba North chapter, Chief Cyril McCarthy Nwobu, Presidents General, Councillors, religious leaders and party chieftains featured match past by schools and the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC members, dance, orchestra performance by the students of Austica Memorial College, Nanka, prizes to deserving schools and group photographs.
