Comptroller Yusuf assumes duty as Customs Area Controller, PTML

…As Comptroller Ibrahim bows out of service

Following the statutory retirement of Comptroller Ali Mahmud Ibrahim, a new Comptroller Saidu Abba Yusuf has assumed office as Customs Area Controller, CAC of Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited, PTML command, assuring officers and stakeholders of due diligence.

The new CAC who resumed on Monday after a brief handover ceremony with his immediate predecessor, Comptroller Ali Ibrahim, called for cooperation of officers and stakeholders.

Comptroller Yusuf who commended his predecessor for setting up mechanism for increased revenue collection, trade facilitation and strict enforcement, urged all port users operating at PTML to make compliance a lifestyle.

According to him, compliance saves clearance time, improve revenue collection and build up the integrity rating of traders towards enjoying fast track benefit and possible migration to the status of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO).

The new CAC added that voluntary compliance creates a win – win situation for everyone as it prevents losses that result from seizures, demand notices and penalties which comes in the course of enforcement.

Comptroller Yusuf assured the PTML Management, bonded terminal operators, shipping companies, importers, exporters, freight forwarders and haulage operators of an open door policy to sustain and improve on the template of trade facilitation

He said the command will rigorously implement all government policies including those that encourage ease of doing business without compromising national security and government revenue.

The former CAC, Ali Mahmud Ibrahim had earlier introduced Comptroller Yusuf to senior officers and some stakeholders while imploring them to extend maximum cooperation to the new Controller.

Comptroller Saidu Abba Yusuf who hails from Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State was born in Kaduna. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in History from University of Maiduguri, Borno State and also holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD) from University of Lagos.

The CAC joined the Nigeria Customs Service in 1991. He has vast experience spanning over three decades in the Service having impacted positively in various areas where he served.

Some of the Area Commands he served include: Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) Command; Cross River/Akwa-Ibom Command; Sokoto Command; Tin-can Island Port Command; Apapa Area Command; Adamawa/Taraba Command; Tariff and Trade Department and also served as the D/C Valuation PTML      Command; Area ll Onne Command, and at the Human Resources Department of the NCS Headquarters.

He has attended several courses in Nigeria and overseas which have prepared him for various customs functions including anti-smuggling, revenue collection, trade facilitation and prevention of money laundering.

As a senior officer who has built a reputation worthy of emulation, Comptroller Yusuf has mentored many younger colleagues, making them productive in the discharge of their official responsibilities and promoting capacity building to achieve efficiency. His hobbies are reading and Boxing.
