The League of Maritime Editors, LOME, on Tuesday congratulated the new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a congratulatory message signed by the President, Chief Timothy Okorocha and the Secretary, Mr Felix Kumuyi, the League said Adeniyi deserves the appointment considering his wealth of experience in the Service.

With over 30 years experience in customs administration which includes strategic and operational responsibilities, League described Adeniyi as having been prepared enough for the task of the new CG.

Besides, the League added that the new CG as a core professional has a deep understanding of the complex nature of international trade.

The Editors advised the new CG to strive to maintain professionalism in the Service, as well as right the wrongs where necessary for the good of the Customs Service.

Part of the message reads, “We also urge you to ensure that by the time you have served your tenure in Customs Service, you will be remembered as one who took professionalism to another level, improved on trade facilitation and welfare of officers and other transformations in the Service.

“We want you to write your name in gold in terms of performance for others to emulate. When you do this, you justify the clamour over the years by maritime industry stakeholders that only career officers should be appointed CG of Nigeria Customs”.

The League also prayed to God to give Adeniyi the wisdom and strength to carry out his new assignment for the interest of the country.
