The Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria, MARAN has hailed the federal government over the confirmation of Adewale Bashir Adeniyi as the substantive Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.
The foremost maritime beat association in Nigeria described the development as a welcomed one which has allayed the worries of stakeholders in the industry.
According to Godfrey Bivbere, the President of the association in a statement shortly after the news of the confirmation was made public, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has through the confirmation further demonstrated that excellence will always be rewarded.
“I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for confirming the appointment of CGC Adewale Adeniyi as the substantive CG of the Nigeria Customs Service, this action has demonstrated that the President will always reward excellence.
“The appointment of Adewale Adeniyi brought so much excitement to the industry in the first place, this confirmation will go a step further to reenergize the CG to deliver on his mandate of facilitating trade and building a virile Customs Service that can be at par with global standards.
“We have no doubt that the CG will be buoyed by this confirmation to do more than he has been doing since he was first appointed in an acting capacity. Once again, we commend the president for this confirmation”, the statement read.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu had on the 19th of June, 2023 announced Adeniyi as the Acting CG of Customs to wide acclaim.
On Friday, October 20, 2023, Mr. Willie Bassey, Director Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in a statement issued in Abuja, announced the confirmation.
According to the statement, the President urged Adeniyi to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
“His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the confirmation of the appointment of Adewale Adeniyi (MFR) as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
“The appointment takes effect from 19th October 2023, and his tenure is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).
*The President tasked him to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment”, the statement reads.
