Patrick Chimezie Anaso of the News Agency of Nigeria, on Tuesday, emerged as the elected Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Anambra State Chapter. Anaso took over from Tony Oji of Orient Daily Newspaper who served for two terms of six years.

He was elected alongside five others. They are to pilot its affairs in the state for the next three years.

The election was held under the supervision of the Vice President of SWAN, Southeast, Frankie Omokhua and the National Secretary of the Association, Ikenna Okonkwo.

Other elected executives are as follows: Vice Chairman – Pamela Eboh; Secretary, Ikenna Nwokedi; Assistant Secretary, Uche Ndeke; Marvelous Ezenwa, Treasurer and Emmanuel Awam as Financial Secretary.

Inaugurating the newly elected officials, the SWAN National Secretary, Mr. Okonkwo, charged the members to live above board by re-positioning the association in the state as no excuses would be given for non-performance.

He further urged them to be creative and look inward with a view to discovering and showcasing the abundant sports talents existing in Anambra state.

He also appealed to them not to apply personal interest in moving the association forward, even as he described the process as peaceful and orderly.

Addressing journalists shortly after the election, the Chairman of State Electoral Committee for the election, Ikem Asika said that the event signaled a new beginning in the state chapter of the association and urged the elected members to work hard to take the association to greater heights.

Speaking on behalf of other elected executive members, Anaso promised to carry every member along in the scheme of things as well as operate an open door policy. He assured that the new leadership under his watch, would collaborate with the Anambra State Government to promote and develop community sports.

The Public Relations Officer of National Olympic Committee, Mr. Tony Nezianya, security agents and the media monitored the exercise.
