…NCS server downtime being addressed – Nnadi
The President of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria, APFFLON, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite has attributed some of the challenges faced by operators at Nigerian ports to neglect by the Federal Government.
Ogunojemite who stated this in his goodwill message to the League of Maritime Editors’ Silver Jubilee celebration in Lagos recently, revealed that for more than one week, cargoes could not exit the port due to epileptic server of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.
He lamented that importers and freight forwarders were made to pay huge amounts as demurrage for the inadequacies of the government through its technical partners, Webb Fontaine.
“For over a week, freight agents have been having issues due to server failure at the port attributable to the incompetence of Webb Fontaine, the Customs IT service provider. When the problem is fixed, will there be a compensatory arrangement or waivers for the rent period at terminals?”, the APFFLON President queried.
However, in his response, the Customs Area Controller, Tincan Island Port Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi assured Ogunojemite that he had taken note of the concerns he raised regarding the downtime that the Service was experiencing with its server and equally assured him that the issue was being addressed.
While thanking him for drawing the attention of the Service to some of the challenges in the system, Nnadi maintained that the service welcomed every positive criticism as it would spur it to make corrections in the system.
His words, “I have seen you and thank you for the goodwill message that you gave and I have read your initial comments when you went to PTML on the downtime that we are having with our server. That issue is being addressed and we are happy that some of you draw out attention to some of the challenges in the system. We welcome every positive criticism and it will spur us to make corrections in the system.”
