Joint Marine Search and Rescue Simulation Exercise To Enhance Safety On Lagos Inland Waterways – LASWA

The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy, Western Naval Command, in collaboration with Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, Marine Police, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, LSFS, Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS and other emergency responder agencies are set to conduct a comprehensive Joint Marine Search and Rescue Simulation Exercise.

A statement signed by LASWA Management emphasized that this initiative aimed to validate the readiness of agencies involved in marine emergency response and reassure the public of a safer and more secure environment along Lagos Inland Waterways.

According to the statement, a rehearsal for this event is scheduled to be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 10 am while the Joint Simulation Exercise will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11 am at the Waterfront of 14 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos.

It warned that vessel operators are strongly advised to adhere to directives and maintain a maximum speed of 4 Knots while navigating along the designated channels during the exercise.

“All emergency responders, boat associations/unions, and inland waterways regulatory agencies at the state and federal levels are encouraged to actively support and participate in this crucial exercise.

“This Joint Marine Search and Rescue Simulation Exercise exemplifies the commitment of these agencies to ensure a prompt, coordinated, and effective response in the event of a marine emergency, contributing to the overall safety and security of Lagos Inland Waterways”, it stated.
