…Challenges agency to public debate
The Deputy National President, Air Logistics of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, Dr. Segun Musa has called for the total overhaul of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, if the federal government is interested in moving the Nigerian economy forward.
Musa who made this call while reacting to the recent appeal by the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh to the management of University of Lagos on a courtesy visit to the agency recently, to adjust its curriculum for the development of Blue Economy potential of the nation, accused the DG of NIMASA of being confused and trying to confuse everyone the same way he confused the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Musa who mulled immediate arrest of the DG for wastage and turning the Blue Economy nomenclature into a litmus test said, “If I have my way, I would call for his immediate arrest for wastage and turning the blue economy nomenclature to be a litmus test.
“I’m sick and tired of him talking about what he knows nothing about. Are we a shipping nation? The answer is NO because being surrounded by water does not classify our country as a shipping nation unless and otherwise we are active players. Again what makes us active players aside having a national fleet and private fleet with flags of convenience?”
Insisting that he had nothing personal against the DG, Musa who is also a Patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club said, “I did warn and advised him that before launching what he does not comprehend, he should carry all related agencies along so that we can brainstorm and come out with something comprehensive that can align with global standards.
“He ignored my advice because he wanted to get credit he never worked for and now the only achievement is debating the blue economy at a different forum as a case study or point of further research.
“NIMASA has failed woefully and I challenge the agency to public debate.”
“We need a total overhaul of this NIMASA if we are truly interested in moving our country’s economy forward”, he added.
He, however, called for a transparent maritime policy that would conveniently address the challenges and solutions that would enhance smooth voyage and safety at reasonable cost.
