The Oko Community is set for an exhibition of her cultural showpiece at the Commissioning of the Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre, Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area by the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo scheduled to take place at the centre today, January 5, 2024.
Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the event, Chief Reuben Muoka, said one of such showpiece is Nkwa Nkwa, a women dance group whose origin dates back to the 19th century, with a characteristic unique rendition, unique steps and unique costumes.
The five villages that make up the community have been invited in the cultural exhibition with each village expected to come with its best dance and musical groups.
“The event will also serve as a home coming of Oko sons and daughters living in Nigeria and the diaspora. It will be a time for the cultural renaissance of our community, which is the home of the Federal Polytechnic Oko”, Muoka said.
The dedication of the centre, which is unique, will reawaken memories of the former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, whose giant statue will also be unveiled by the Anambra State Governor.
“For us, this event is a statement about the multifaceted philanthropic dispositions of the Dr. Alex.Ekwueme in all parts of.human endeavor, especially what he had bequeathed to the Community, the zone, and the nation. It is our own big way of celebrating Ide Oko, a unique being who also appreciates culture and works of art”, Muoka said.
