In their bid to ensure that the destitute, the hungry on the streets of Awka and beyond are well fed and adequately taken care of, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA women led by its State Welfare Secretary, Hon. Chikodi Nonyelu, JP recently embarked on street feeding of the poorest of the poor in Awka the Anambra State Capital.

The women were seen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka’s entrance; UNIZIK Temporary Site Junction as well as the popular Arroma junction sharing cooked meals, meats, drinks, water and assorted gifts to the destitute, the poor and beggars in and around the areas.

Speaking on the essence of the street feeding, the sponsor of the programme and the State Welfare Secretary of APGA, Hon. Chikodi Nonyelu, JP stated that feeding the poor and giving of alms to the less privileged was in line with the party’s manifesto and that they were living up, saying that it was her own way of contributing towards the actualization of APGA’s mandate to Ndi Anambra .

Hon. Nonyelu who was represented at the event by Hon. Princess Ngozi Orji noted that APGA remained the only party with human face and also the only party that cared for all, saying that the exercise would go a long way towards cushioning the effects of hardship and hunger on the poor on the streets of Awka and beyond. She emphasized that it would be a continuous thing and would soon be taken beyond the streets of Awka.

The APGA State Welfare Secretary commended the Leader of the party and the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for making their job of propagating the ideals of the party so easy through his good governance in the state, adding that the Governor’s second term ambition would be a lot easier using his performance so far in the state.

Hon. Nonyelu thanked the National Chairman of the party, Barr.  Sly Ezeokenwa as well as the state Chairman of APGA, High Chief Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye for their leadership qualities for giving all a level playing ground to showcase their expertise and technical-know-how.

Contributing, the APGA’s State Woman Leader, Hon. Mrs. Esther Onyekesi applauded the initiative and promised to mobilize support to enable the street feeding to gain momentum, even as she said that APGA women were ready to work and ensure that the Governor was returned for the second term in office.

Those who participated in the street feeding included the Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Hon. Pat Ibekwe, Mrs. Ngozi Nwobu, among others.

Distribution of bags filled with packs of cooked food , bottled water, drinks and other edibles to the poor formed the highpoints of occasion.
