The Management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, last weekend concluded a three day Performance Management retreat where the Agency’s Executive Directors signed a performance bond with the DG/CEO, on behalf of departments under their Directorates.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola CON, who declared the session open, reiterated the commitment of the current Administration to improve on service delivery in public service.

The Honorable Minister who was represented by the Director Maritime Safety and Security of the Ministry, Mr. Babatunde Bombata, noted that the maritime sector is the gateway to the nation’s economy with the potential to facilitate the economic diversification agenda of the Federal Government.

In his words “It has been made abundantly clear that the public service under the current Federal Government, is performance-driven and government businesses can no longer be conducted as usual. Thus, the Government and its partners have worked assiduously to establish performance management and measurement mechanisms that are aimed at holding all public officers accountable”.

A Director from the office of the Head of Service, Rikko Owutti, while addressing NIMASA staff on Performance Management process, commended the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy for taking the lead in the quest to change status quo in terms of service delivery and performance Management.

“We at the office of the Head of Service have been monitoring the commitment level of Ministries to this newly introduced Performance Management System, and I must commend the leadership and staff of all Agencies under the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry.

Speaking at the session, the NIMASA DG, Dr. Bashir Jamoh OFR, urged staff of the Agency to embrace the new performance monitoring and management system.

“Our Minister signed a Performance Bond with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR late last year, I signed a Performance Bond with the Minister on your behalf, today, you have all signed the performance Bond with me. So when you deliver, I will have a good report card to submit to our Minister, who in turn will submit the same to Mr. President. I urge you to deliver on this bond we signed today because the success or otherwise of our President depends largely on your performance”, he said.
