Hostilities in the 2024 Anambra Sports Solution Initiative, ANSSI for primary and secondary schools will continue on today at the Zonal elimination series in select venues across the three Senatorial Districts.

This followed the conclusion of community and local government level stages for team events including football, basketball and volleyball.

Other events featured in the 12 games festival are Athletics, Chess, Scrabble, Swimming, Table tennis, Tennis, Taekwondo, Cricket and Ncho in U-12, U-14 and U-18 categories.

According to the schedule released by Osita Obijofor, Secretary of the Main Organising Committee, Chuba Ikpeazu and Otuocha Stadiums will host the football event in Anambra North Zone while Isuofia Community Secondary School and Nnewi Grammar School will be the arenas for Anambra South Zone contest.

St. Stephen Anglican School, Ifitedunu and Nnamdi Azikiwe Secondary School, Abagana will be the venue for Anambra Central Zone elimination football games.

About 756 primary and secondary schools from the 179 communities in Anambra are taking part in this year’s ANSSI festival.

Meanwhile, Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission has expressed satisfaction with the level of competition and talents so far displayed.

Onyedum said the Commission under him was leading the campaign against cheat in age competitions by engaging in pure development programmes.

He said, like last year, not less than 85 percent of the state contingent to National Youth Games would be talents discovered during the festival.

The Chairman thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his support and commitment towards development of the youth and also giving them opportunity to combine education with competitive sports.
