…Sends names to Anambra State House of Assembly
The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has this afternoon submitted the names of Capt. Barr. Casmir Nwafor (Rtd.) and 20 others to the Anambra State House of Assembly for consideration as Transition Committee Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
Pursuant to section 208 of the Local Government Law 1999 as amended, (number 6 law of 2012), Governor Soludo sent the names of 21 Transition Committee (TC) Chairmen and members for Local Government in the state whose tenure will be for three months.
While Capt. Barr. Casmir Nwafor (Rtd.) has been penciled down for consideration as Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, others shortlisted alongside him as Transition Committee Chairmen of Local Government Areas included: Dr. Chibuike Ofobuike (Aguata), Sir Ifeanyi Chiweze (Anambra East), Mr. Fidelis Nnazo (Anambra West), Mr. Romanus Chukwuma Ibekwe (Anaocha), Mr. ThankGod Chibuike Anagor (Awka North), Mr. Chinedu Okafor (Awka South), Mr. Alphonsus Ofumele (Ayamelum). Barr. Chijoke Clement Ozumba (Dunukofia), Mr. James Chimezie Obi (Ekwusigo) and Mr. Stanley Nkwoka (Idemili North).
Also on the list are: Mrs. Amaka Obi (Idemili South), Engr. Anayo Ojiako (Ihiala), Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba (Njikoka), Engr. Chris Obiora (Nnewi North), Mr. Val George Chinedu Ezeogidi (Nnewi South), Mr. Franklin Nwadialu (Ogbaru), Mr. Anthony Nwaora (Onitsha North), Mr. Joseph Emeka Orji (Onitsha South), Mr. Shedrack Azubuike (Orumba South), and Mr. Emma Nweke (Oyi).
The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, after reading the letter at plenary on Wednesday June 19, 2024, referred the letter to the Chairman Screening Committee, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, who doubles as the Deputy Speaker.
Rt. Hon. Udeze urged the Committee to report back to the House on the next adjourned date.
The House adjourned to reconvene on Thursday June 20, 2024.
Capt. Barr. Casmir Nwafor (Rtd.) is a founding member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the first Deputy Youth Leader of the Party in Anambra State.
He was the first APGA Orumba North Local Government Chairman and the pioneer APGA Anambra State House of Assembly candidate for Orumba North State constituency in 2003 general elections. He contested for the APGA ticket for Orumba North/South Federal Constituency in the 2019 general election. He thereafter contested for the position of State Secretary of APGA in 2023 State Congress.
Capt. Barr. Casmir Nwafor is currently the President General of Oko People’s Union, OPU, a position he won on December 30, 2023. His appointment by Governor Soludo has elicited some excitement in Oko community and indeed, Orumba North Local Government Area in general. He will be succeeding another illustrious son of Oko community, Hon. Sir Ogochukwu Ekwueme whose tenure was adjudged as one of the best in the history of the Local Government.
As Orumba North awaits confirmation of Capt. Barr. Casmir Nwafor (Rtd) as its new Transition Committee Chairman tomorrow by the Anambra State House of Assembly, he is ever ready to justify the confidence reposed on him by His Excellency, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and to contribute to the building of clean, secure and peaceful homeland.
