The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria, MARAN, Nigeria’s leading maritime beat association has extended a warm congratulation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on the occasion of his first anniversary as the Comptroller General of the service.

The association thanked the CGC for not disappointing Nigerians and living up to the huge responsibilities reposed in him prior to his appointment.

The association in a statement signed by the President of the association, Godfrey Bivbere and the Secretary, Babajide Okeowo noted that before his appointment the service was in a dire need of a core professional to steer the affairs of the service and one year after, he has lived up to the expectations reposed in him and has even surpassed it.

The association noted with excitement the many achievements of the CGC in just one year of being on the saddle in the areas of revenue generation, repositioning the service for optimal performance, collaboration with other sister agencies and reigniting professionalism in the service.

“Many stakeholders and Nigerians in general have been clamouring for a career service officer to be at the helm of affairs of the service and so Nigerians were relieved when the announcement was made that he has been appointed as the CG of Customs.

“Like the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is expected, there was a huge expectation from stakeholders and the public in general to see how well he will perform.

“The association is glad to know and see that CG Adeniyi has not disappointed, in fact, he has performed beyond expectation in repositioning the service for optimal performance and as a critical stakeholder and the fourth estate of the realm, we are super excited by his performance and as such, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to him”, Bivbere stated.

On his part, Okeowo praised the CG for his many collaborations with other sister agencies and for setting good precedent on what cooperation between government agencies should look like.

“One thing that has set CGC Adeniyi apart from his predecessors is his ability to foster collaboration with other sister agencies, hardly a week pass without reading about one collaboration or the other which is a testament to his vast knowledge of the service and his level of acceptance”, he said.

The association, therefore, wishes the CGC more success moving forward in repositioning the service.
