The Labour Party House of Representatives Candidate for Alimosho Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the 2023 National Assembly Elections, Engr. Emmanuel Azubuike Umeadi has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention.

Umeadi who made this call in a statement he personally signed and sent to Primetime Reporters pointed out that the continuous detention of Kanu has caused a collosal damage to the economy of the entire southeast and the country at large adding that it’s no longer politically and economic reasonable to continue to detain him.

He appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to save the economy of the Southeast and save the people of the region from the psychological trauma and pain that they have lived in for many years now as a result of the detention of the IPOB leader and set machinery in motion to rebuild the region and end the insecurity that has ravaged the region for many years now.

“You can imagine the amount of money and valuable time being lost every Monday as a result of the sit-at-home imposed on the region by IPOB to protest the continued detention of her leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. It does not make political and economic sense to continue to detain the IPOB.

“I call on the leadership of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Southeast Governors’ Forum, Igbo Leaders of Thought and indeed, all stakeholders in the Igbo project to lend their voices to the call for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and to engage the federal government for a political solution to the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”, he said.

He, however, appreciated the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, Southeast caucus in the National Assembly and indeed, all those who have at one time or the other called for the release of the IPOB leader urging them not to relent in their continuous call for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Only a political solution to this issue is the answer to the insecurity in the Southeast region and some parts of the country and President Tinubu and the political class should not be afraid to explore it fo a lasting peace in the country”, he submitted.
