…Urges him to reach out to critical stakeholders
The Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Widescope Group, Dr. Segun Musa has hailed the appointment of the new Director General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu describing it as timely.
Musa who made his feeling about the appointment known in a chat with our correspondent in Lagos recently pointed out that the appointment came at a time when the stakeholders needed a change in the management of NIMASA so that they could begin to adopt the best approach to make that agency to be relevant in the scheme of maritime administration across the globe.
While congratulating him on his appointment, Musa, however, warned him to avoid the mistakes made by his predecessor in office, Dr. Bashir Jamoh who he accused of running the agency as his personal property and failing to exhaust the opportunities available to him to gain the support of other agencies and critical stakeholders in the industry.
Musa who is also the National Deputy President, Air Logistics of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, maintained that anybody who superintends over an agency such as NIMASA who was unable to reach out to get feedback from the stakeholders and synergize with other agencies, was bound to fail.
“That is the way the agency has been programmed to function. Even, if you look at the Act 2007 that established the agency, you will discover that it was established in such a way that it will be able to extend hands of fellowship to critical stakeholders to be able to feel the pulse of the industry and establish a robust interaction among critical stakeholders.
“For instance, it has so many interface with so many agencies – the customs, NPA, Shippers’ Council and so many other critical stakeholders. So, if anybody is heading such agency, and just want to seclude himself to the confine of his agency, not reaching out, getting feedback from other actors and forming synergy with them to propel that agency, such a person is bound to fail and that was what happened to Jamoh.
“This man coming in as the new DG, I want believe that he will be willing to form a robust synergy and get feedback from actors in the sector and that is the only when can succeed”, he stated.
He charged the new NIMASA DG to be open and transparent in running the affairs of the apex maritime administration in Nigeria and reach out to the critical stakeholders in the industry and engage them squarely in order to galvanize the needed support for him to deliver on his mandate at NIMASA.
