The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria, APFFLON has hailed the Customs Area Controller of the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Dera Nnadi for the leadership he has brought to bear in the command leading to the persistent seizure of illicit drugs imported into the country by some unpatriotic elements through the Tincan Island Port.

The association which spoke through its National President, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite applauded the professionalism with which the command under Comptroller Nnadi discharges the core mandates of the Service including anti-smuggling, trade facilitation and revenue collection.

Ogunojemite argued that the recent seizure of the imported 684 packets of Cannabis Indica also known as Colorado, weighing 341.025kg with a street value of N682,050,000.00 was an act that had saved thousands of potential users from joining the ranks of citizens with drug related issues.

According to him, “The potential damage that these packets of imported hard drugs on public health cannot be overemphasized as these drugs cause health, social and economic damage to citizens and ultimately the nation. It has been established that hard drugs fuel violence and exacerbate social dislocations that lead to war situations and these are all what Nigeria as a nation is suffering right now.”

The APFFLON President further applauded the officers and men of the Tincan Island Customs Command over seizures of illicit drugs, medicaments, and different types of military weapons and equipment at Tincan Island Port, a development, he said brought about the presence of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi at the command recently.

While applauding Comptroller Nnadi for his intelligence, sagacity and relationship with the stakeholders which he said had translated to the massive seizures, Ogunojemite submitted that these attributes had singled him out as a man of great capacity and performance.

He therefore, encouraged Comptroller Nnadi to continue to give his best as he noted the age long saying that “The reward for good work is more work.”

He thereafter appealed to the heads of other government agencies to emulate Nigeria Customs Service by providing trainings and establishing good relationships with freight forwarders noting that “freight forwarders are professionals who will always want to carry out their legitimate duties in free and safe environments in order to bring out their best to generate the needed revenue for government and also for their daily bread.”
