Police, National Cybercrime Centre Arraign Seven Suspects In Court Over Alleged Cybercrime

The Nigeria Police Force, NPF and the National Cybercrime Centre, NCCC, Lagos annex have arraigned seven (7) suspected fraudsters  before a Lagos Magistrate Court on Tuesday for alleged cyberspace fraud.

The defendants: Bakare Dayo Sherif, Olajire Olaitan, Lawal Toheed Opeyemi, Omiyale Opeyemi, Adeyemi Seyi, Odunlami Lateef and Wahab Olanrewaju Jimoh are standing trial before Magistrate A. A Paul of the Lagos Magistrate Court, Tinubu on a 3-count charge over alleged impersonation, internet fraud and for allegedly obtaining various amount of United States dollars from a foreigner. 

They were brought to court by officers of the Nigerian Police Force and they pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to them by the Registrar of the Court. 

It would be recalled that: Bakare Dayo Sherif, Olajire Olaitan, Lawal Toheed Opeyemi, Omiyale Opeyemi, Adeyemi Seyi Odunlami Lateef and Wahab Olanrewaju Jimoh are already standing trial over alleged Cybercrime before Magistrate M.E Owumi between the year 2022 and 2024 within the magisterial district of the same Court. 

Magistrate A A Paul in his ruling on the bail application brought before the court by the defendants granted them bail in the sum of One million Naira with 2 sureties. 

In the meantime, the defendants have been remanded in Ikoyi correctional centre and the case has been adjourned till January 15, 2025.
