Comptroller Fidelis Nwanze Decorated As ACG Orbih Tasks Officers On Proficiency

A former Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of Enforcement at the Apapa Port Customs Command, Fidelis Chukwuemeka Nwanze, was few days ago decorated with his new rank of Comptroller of Customs in a ceremony which held at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos.

The event which was presided over by the Zonal Coordinator in charge of Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, ACG Charles Orbih and witnessed by numerous colleagues, friends and families of the newly promoted officers, also witness the decoration of other Comptrollers, Deputy Comptrollers and Assistant Comptrollers.

Speaking shortly after his decoration, Comptroller Nwanze described his promotion and subsequent decoration as a dream come true while thanking the almighty God for making him see his dream come true in his lifetime.

His words, “It’s a dream come true and I thank God for seeing it come true.”

He, however, acknowledged that the promotion meant more work for him as according to him, “To whom much is given, much is expected of him.” He pledged to give his best in his new position while leaving the rest to God.

Comptroller Nwanze who appreciated the Comptroller General of Customs, CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and the Nigeria Customs Service Board for approving his promotion and decoration, also expressed his gratitude to his wife, children, colleagues and friends who stood by him and contributed to his attaining this height, thanking them for their understanding and tolerance all through the past years.

Earlier in his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, ACG Charles Orbih who alongside other Comptrollers undertook the decoration of the promoted Comptrollers, Deputy Comptrollers and Assistant Comptrollers, advised the promoted officers to adhere to the visionary leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs.

Orbih observed that the ceremony exemplified the commitment of the Service to excellence and professional growth as it continued its journey towards a fully modernized and efficient NCS.

“Under the visionary leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR dsm FNIIA, psc+, the Service has embarked on a transformative journey anchored on three cardinal pillars: consolidation of automation processes and digital infrastructure, collaboration with stakeholders and sister agencies for enhanced trade facilitation, and innovation in our approach to customs operations and revenue generation.

“This progressive vision has created an environment where excellence thrives, as evidenced by today’s promotion ceremony. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all promoted officers gathered here today.

“Your elevation is a testament to your exceptional dedication, unwavering integrity, and outstanding contributions to our nation’s economic security. The Service has demonstrated remarkable fairness and thoroughness in selecting the very best among its officers for promotion, ensuring that merit and performance remain the bedrock of career advancement”, he said.

The Zonal Coordinator, therefore, urged the promoted officers to demonstrate a remarkable proficiency in embracing modern Customs procedures and ensuring that high standards are upheld.

“As the premier Zone of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone ‘A’ maintains unprecedented standard in revenue generation, revenue collection, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, and national security.

“Our newly promoted officers have demonstrated a remarkable proficiency in embracing modern customs procedures and ensuring that high standards are upheld. The dedication shown by these promoted officers in implementing our mandate reflects their readiness for higher obligations. Their commitment to continuous
learning and adaptation has significantly contributed to achieving our vision of a modernized and efficient Service.

“Moving forward, these promotions carry the weight of greater responsibilities in alignment with our core values of integrity and professionalism. Our newly
promoted officers must continue to uphold the highest standard of service delivery and ethical conduct. 

“A lot more is expected of you by the Service because of this unalloyed promotion being bestowed upon you today. You should continuously exemplify the great leadership qualities that is expected from you wherever you are assigned to by the Service. Once again, congratulations to our newly promoted officers.”
