The National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, ANLCA, Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji, yesterday, visited the members of the association at the PTML chapter thanking them for the opportunity given to them to serve and for peacefully selecting men and women that are going to serve them at the chapter in the next three years.
Nwokeoji who was accompanied on the visit by the members of the National Executive Committee, NECOM of the association, reminded members of the association in the chapter that they were the ones who made their choice of leaders during the election and urged them to give the newly elected executive their unalloyed support.
His words, “What you owe us from the National to the chapters is for you to support them to make this their tenure a success because their success is your own success. If you run them down, even the authorities we are relating with, they will not have regard for them and it will not augur well for you. You never know when you will call upon them or call upon us to intervene in a situation.
“But when you have run down your leaders, nobody will respect them and they will not be useful to you. All of you are aware that in 2018, while I was serving as a National Vice President, I lost an election. But that was not the end of life. I went back to face my business and at the appointed time, I tried again and God took charge and said yes, possibly because of the way you conducted yourself, come and take that position, through a vote from all of you.”
Presenting the newly elected executive of the chapter to them, the ANLCA boss said, “We are here to present the men and woman that you have elected. These are the people that you need to work with. They are human beings, they are not God. It’s only God that is faultless. As you see them, they occupy different offices and for them to function maximally, they need your support. Support them, who knows, next time, it might be your own turn but if you fail to support them, when it is your turn, they will say this man that did not support us and they will now work against you.
“Tolerate them, any area you think that they are not doing well, feel free to report to us. We will handle it but please, we don’t want to hear from the national, complain that something is happening here to the knowledge of the public. Let us handle and resolve it inhouse.
“Your know them, they are all grounded people in this chapter. They are not people that we imported for the purpose of election. They have been working with you in different capacities before now but they are now to be seen in a different capacity as officers of this chapter.”
Speaking to the newly elected executive, he said, “You volunteered yourselves, campaigned and now, you have been given this mandate. Go and check your campaign promises to these people, start delivering them one by one so that by the time we come next, what you are going to tell us is that out seven promises, that you have delivered four or five or that you have even delivered on your manifesto and you are now adding new things.
“And then, working with us at the national secretariat, if you continue to bring us under canopy, be sure that we might not come. We need to get an office. ANLCA is a rebranded ANLCA that we need to operate as corporate people because when we do that, we will have our deserved respect and recognition by authorities.
“On behalf of NECOM, I urge you to carry everybody along, everybody voted for you, don’t say this man worked against you or start remembering what happened during the election, you are now officers in charge of all and not in charge of any particular group.”
Responding, the Chairman of the chapter, Chief Sunday Davies Charles Nwarienne thanked the National President for the visit and for the exposure that they had gotten from their visit with him to the Customs Area Controller of the PTML Customs Command, PTML terminal management and at the chapter secretariat.
He said, “We have been educated on so many things today right from the Customs Area Controller to this PTML. We thank you because we know we are going to work with you. Thank you again for rebranding ANLCA. God will keep you and God will keep all of you.
“We promise you that we are going to do better in this PTML and there will be changes. Trust us and God with us, we are going to deliver.”
